CIVIL MEDIATION

After 25 years as a Vermont Superior Court judge, I have a broad perspective on civil litigation. My work has included many areas of law, including personal injury cases, contract disputes, employment litigation, consumer fraud cases, construction litigation, and property disputes. I have extensive experience working with both lawyers and self-represented parties. My years on the bench have taught me that the resolution of many disputes involves not just logic but also emotions. Sometimes what litigants need is to feel heard before they can move towards resolution. Empathetic listening and patience are often necessary to get to that point.

Each side comes to the table with their own perspectives and beliefs, often hardened by the stress of litigation and the history between the parties. My goal is to assist you in reaching solutions that both sides can live with. Where appropriate, I can also offer a view into how judges and juries are likely to view the case if it went to trial.

I prefer in-person mediation, but also offer Zoom mediation.
